Those pesky internets

Funny how everything spoken into the record by public people, like senators, gets captured and posted to the internet:

Mr. McCAIN. Madam President, the amendment before the Senate is a very simple one. It restricts the use of campaign funds for inherently personal purposes. The
amendment would restrict individuals from using campaign funds for such things as home mortgage payments, clothing purchases, noncampaign automobile expenses,
country club memberships, and vacations or other trips that are noncampaign in nature.

The rhetoric presented by politicians can certainly be an interesting one. Personally, and speaking as a Canadian, I find your political system confusing, and this exemplifies that.

How is it that an individual's campaign can NOT buy clothes for a candidate, but the national party CAN? Technically not the same entity, but functionally they actually are.

Of course it confusing. That's the purpose really. Campaign finance reform, HASN'T. Its the same reason donations to the candidates are limited, but not to PACs and other organizations are not.

Bottom line is that the system is corrupt. The Dems and GOP want to insure that there is no real competition. None of the other 3rd party candidates were invited to the debates. The rules are there to insure status quo.
